The automatic install detection settings

If the Automatically monitor installations checkbox is checked, the installation monitor tries to detect when a new program setup starts, and asks you whether to monitor it or not. The detection is done based on the name of the programs that start.

For example, if a program called setup.exe is started, the installation monitor thinks this is a new installation, and asks you whether to monitor installations or not.

The names which trigger this can be modified in the Automatic installation detection tab of the Settings dialog shown bellow:

Any name that is listed in the left pane will be detected as a setup (installation) program.

For example, if you add an entry called MyInstall.exe there, then when you run MyInstall.exe, the program will ask you if you want to monitor the installation or not.

Wildcards are supported. For example, if you enter MyInstall*.exe in the left pane, and you run MyInstallTEST.exe, that will be detected as an installation. Click here to find out more about using wildcards.

Exceptions

If you enter a file name in the right pane, the program with that name will never trigger a dialog asking you to monitor an installation or not.

If you often run a program which is not an installation program, and the installation monitor bugs you about this every time, you can add that program's file name in the exception pane.
